The Raven (2012) – review

FThe Ravenor What It’s Worth ~

Nevermore said the Raven… we’ll this was a good watch. I wouldn’t say it was a great movie but it was worth watching.

Edger Allan Poe has always been a mystery and history has portrayed him a eccentric or crazy. He died when he was 40 years old. He was found wondering in the streets delirious, and said to have been, “in great distress, and… in need of immediate assistance”. It was said he repeatedly called out the name “Reynolds”.

The movie actually used information on his real life and death and put that into the movie, along with some of his literary works. The last scene of him was saying, “Reynolds”. Which happen to be the villain everyone was looking for.

I’d say it is worth a good watch. I’m not a big John Cusack fan but I think he did an excellent job playing Poe.

High Noon

highnoonFor What It’s Worth~

High Noon (1952) is a great movie on many levels. 1 it’s a western and you can’t go wrong with that, 2 it’s a love story, 3 there is suspense leading up to action.

A sheriff (Gary Cooper) of a small town finds out a bad guy he put away for life has been paroled after just 5 years. They bad guy and his gang have came back to town to kill the sheriff. The bad guys gang comes to town to wait for him to get of the train, from prison. It’s also the sheriff’s wedding day and the day he was turning in his badge. The sheriff ask the town and friends for help without anyone willing to help.

The moving ends with the sheriff defeating the gang and throwing his badge in the dirt in front of the entire town who turned their backs on him. He ride off with his smokin’ hottie babe (Grace  Kelly)to another place! I never really thought this was a good choice for his wife. His at least 20 years older than her and she is smokin’ ass HOT, and he’s just OK. She is way out of his league.

As you watch this great movie watch the lighting and shadows. They really to a lot of care when doing the film. I would give it a Sunday afternoon watch!

Ted – review

ted10For what it’s worth ~

The movie “TED” was not what I expected. I started out to expect a children story and it turned into anything but a children story. Ted was one of those movies that catch you by total surprise. I laughed so hard I thought I’d cry. Ted was a teddy bear who a little boy wished alive. Now they swore to remain best friends their entire life. But the boy grows up and finds it hard to have a teddy bear as you best friend.

This is a great comedy and one that will become a classic. I wouldn’t let any children watch it though… Ted is a pot smoking, drinking, party animal. You’ll love the fact that Flash Gordon from the 1980 movie, Sam J. Jones, plays a part in this.

Awesome Movie… watch it.

The Great Escape – review

great-escapeFor what it’s worth ~

The Great Escape was released in 1963. Based on a true story, a group of allied escape artist type POW’s are all put in an ‘escape proof’ camp. They come up with a plan to have 250 some odd prisoners escape at the same time. This is an awesome movie and full of stars. This movie is a tribute to all World War II pow’s. The sad fact is the German were better to their Pow’s that their own people.

This has to be on every top 100 list there is. The movie seems to be a few hours long and would make a great weekend movie.

North By NorthWest – review

This is a classic 1959 movie starring Cary Grant. Cary Grant plays an advertising executive who is mistaken for a spy. He is trying to figure out what is going on and who the actual spy is when he runs into Eva Marie Saint. She is a foreign spy and as the movie goes he figures out there is no spy and he’s been set up by a government agency. The movie has some great scene and excellent cinematography.

The movie end with a dramatic rescue and escape at the top of Mt. Rushmore. This movie deserve to be a classic and is understandably on the best movies of all time.

Conan the Barbarian

Fantastic! I really enjoyed this movie. I was exception the old Conan and couldn’t have been more wrong. The story line told how Conan became the warrior barbarian. The movie has more action in 30 than the original movie had in the entire movie.

Conan was born in battle and became a fierce warrior (or barbarian) . Avenging the death of his father he sets out to destroy the entire kingdom who were responsible. Fighting monsters, and impossible odds, and Army’s he finds allies to make the fight even more exciting.

The Cocoanuts – review

This movie was released in 1929 Marx Brothers movie. It does have some great one liners in it but it’s also has alot of musical act in it. I’m not sure if I would ever recommend it as a Saturday evening movie but maybe a Tuesday afternoon movie. I really enjoyed “A Night in Casablanca, Duck Soup, A day at the Races, and many others but this just wasn’t my cup of tea as some say.

I really love the Marx Brother but his is one that I’m not even fond of… sorry Groucho

Battleship – review

Battleship_003For what it’s worth ~

WOW… I actually liked this movie and I feel as if I’m one of the few who did. My entire family watched this on “Family movie night” and we all liked it. It was one of the few movies that we all have agreed was good in a long time. Sadly most of the movie critics disagreed with us and really shredded the movie.

The movie had action, aliens, romance, and some great ship fighting scenes, how can it be bad? Well like I always say it only my opinion and it isn’t worth much.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

1968For what it’s worth ~

Now here is a classic horror film. I watch this film every few years to discover new things that I had originally missed. I really don’t know of anyone who has never seen the Night of the Living Dead.

The new show “The Walking Dead” is a direct takeoff on “Night of the Living Dead” except in The Walking Dead it’s a larger problem. Same type of zombies, slow moving and they eat every living thing they can find. If you haven’t seen the original movie then watch it. You’ll see similarities from every zombie movie that has been made since.

Jack the Giant Slayer

Jack-the-Giant-SlayerFor what it’s worth ~

I watch the movie from beginning to end and still don’t know if I liked it or not. Of course it’s mostly a very unbelievable story. Most of the special effect were OK and every now and then good humor.

As you may know it’s a remake of “Jake and the Beanstalk”.  Maybe I fell asleep during the movie and missed the great parts. But for everything I can remember it I could have a do-over I would NOT put this movie in the blueray player.

If anyone think differently let me know.
