Catch 22 – Review

imagesFor what it’s worth ~

This 1970 movie “Catch 22” will fully explain were the phrase Catch 22 came from. You can only see me when I’m out type stuff.

A bombardier in World War tries to understand the insanity of the war. Having served in the US Army for 4 years myself,  I’ve seen the “military mentality” first hand.  Most of the time it makes absolutely NO sense at all.  Why do they do things they do? After a while you learn to NOT even try to make sense of most of what is going on. If you were never there you probably are not going to believe it anyways.  That what this movie is about…

Example: You need experience to be hired to do a job but you can’t get the experience because nobody will hire you before you have any experience.

You really will have to watch this movie to really appreciate and understand it.

Spiderman (2012) – review

For what it’s worth ~

spider-man-movieThis Spiderman I actually liked. I think what it has been my dislike for Spiderman was Toby Mcguire. I never thought he played a good Spiderman / Peter Parker. I think they took his being a nerd and geek to a level of pussy or something. This Spiderman had a little dark side and to me was more realistic than any others before.

I guess to me Spiderman has alway been in the shadows of Superman, Hulk, Thor, and Batman. For a superhero he has always been a wuss of sorts. He does have one heck of a fan club and I have to admit the best theme song! lol

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He’s got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.

The Dark Knight Rises – review

For what it’s worth ~

This Dark Knight Rises was one of the better Batman’s that I’ve seen. I really like the old ones as a kid with Adam West. The when they made the ones in the 1980’2 with Michael Keaton I thought they couldn’t get any better.  I guess I’ll always follow and watch the movies when ever they come out.  They’ve come along way since Adam West put on the mask. I think they’re more realistic and Darker, they way you’d expect Batman to be.

I am sorry that I’ve had the DVD for 10 months and never  watched it. I’ll go to the theater and watch the next one!

Red Dawn – review

For what it’s worth ~

Red dawn boysRed Dawn has always been one of my favorite movies. The newest, 2012 version, had a lot of updated special effects. Chris Helmsley also played a great leading role, as good as Patrick Swayze from the 1984 version. I really don’t think Josh Peck can even act though.  I guess since the breakup of the Soviet Union they had to update many of the scenes and storyline. Instead of Russia being the enemy it was North Korea. As I watch the movie I couldn’t help think, “North Korea does not have the finances or resources to invade America”. We have to many soldiers, former soldiers and people with guns to even attempt an invasion in the great USA.

The new movie was okay but all-in-a ll I still preferred the original Red Dawn. Don’t get me wrong it is worth a watch. I just really expected more out of Chris Helmsley than this and Cabin in the Woods.

The Awakening

The-Awakening-2

The Awakening takes place in 1921, the main (female) character is overwhelmed by the loss and grief of her husband, during World War I. It a suspense / thriller movie that kept me guessing until the end. She is a ghost investigator who disproves ghost and supernatural events, until she is called to a boarding school where it’s her that start seeing ghost.

Yes it’s a great late night movie, but I really miss this type of movie. I hate gore and most of the horror movies just isn’t scary anymore. I love to watch an old Frankenstein or Wolfman move in black and white. lol

The Awakening isn’t a great movie but it’s a good movie. Watch it for yourself and let me know what you think.

It Happened One Night

For what it’s worth ~

clarkgable1Frank Capra 1934 movie “It Happened One Night” was an Excellent movie! It stared ” Clark Gable” and “Claudette Colbert”. I had seen Clark Gable in a few different movies but this one really brought is acting to an entire new level. I can’t say enough good things about this old black and white film. Funny and entertaining for today’s audiences.

Make it a nice romantic evening with this great movie! I’ll forever be a fan of Clark Gable!

Road to Perdition – review

NewmanFor what it’s worth ~

I’ve had this copied to my computer for about 7 years and thought about watching several times but never did. I guess it was the name?

The movie “Road to Perdition” starring Tom Hanks is placed in the 1930 with Mr. Hanks playing a hit-man for a gangster. His son accidentally see a hit, and so begins the movie.  I don’t want to say anymore just in case someone hasn’t seen the movie. It’s very entertaining, nothing like Tom Hanks has done before. I’m ashamed it took me 10 years to finally watch the movie.  If you haven’t seen the movie and like the old gangster type this is for you. Paul Newman and Jude Law also star in the film.  I think was Paul Newmans last film? He did the voice of Doc in “Cars” and did a couple of TV movies after this.

If you haven’t seen it, do!

Life of Pi – review

Life_of_PiFor what it’s worth ~

Life of Pi was a slow but excellent movie. At the end it left me wondering what was real and what was the story. Was it a metaphor to explain what happened or was the other story the simplest and easiest to accept?

The movie stars Irrfan Khan (the Amazing Spiderman, Slum Dog Millionaire) as played an excellent part.

Watch this is blue-ray on a high definition TV, wow what colors and special effects it’s worth it!

Invasion of Body Snatchers 1956 & 1978

bodysnatchers

For what it’s worth…

Yes, I watched both the 1956 and 1978 versions of “Invasion of Body Snatchers”. Although the effect in the 1978 movie was better the 1956 version was much better. Maybe it was because 1956 was in black and white filming, and the other in color. Maybe the actors  Kevin McCarthy seemed more believable than Donald Sutherland, or Dana Wynter was hotter than Brooke Adams, or just because it was the original? Both movies are worth watching and I’d recommend taking a night and watching both, back-to-back.

Not as scary as when I was a kid but still you have to love the film and story line.  Kevin McCarthy made a special appearance in the 1978 version!

The Hobbit – review

hobbitOK…for what it’s worth ~

I really enjoyed “The Hobbit” movie.  I had re-read the book because it had been 33 years or so since I had read it. The movie followed the book but at first didn’t understand how Peter Jackson was going to get 3 movies out of the book. It’s the shortest of the 4 books and didn’t have a lot happening. (Compared to the “Lord of the Rings”) But I enjoyed Mr. Jackson spin on the story and going even more in depth with the characters than the book did.

Excellent movie and can’t wait to watch the next 2 in the series. Was it a “Return of the King”? No, but then again it wasn’t suppose to be… it’s the beginning not the end. It’s a must for all science fiction fans out there.
