White House Down – review

tatumFor What It’s Worth ~

My family and I all watched, “White House Down”. We all seem to enjoy it. I thought it was full of action and the better of the two movies about the white house being under attack.

It’s odd that two movies, “White House Down” and “Olympus Has Fallen” came out at about the same time. Both movies were about the white house been attacked and terrorist taking it over.  To me it seems as if the would have waited a year to release the movie they both could have made more money.

I can say I would watch either movie again but this movie was my favorite. Watch both and tell me you opinion on it. Which one is better to you?

Sleeping by the fire place

Picture 34aMy kids have me sleeping by the fireplace tonight. I’m the type of person who has to go the bathroom 2-3 times per night so i’m not look forward to getting up off the floor during the middle of the night. But the kids are all looking forward to it, so I’ll bite the bullet and aggravate myself for the night.

So I hope everyone sleeps well tonight in the comfy beds! LOL

Liquid Black Gold… Coffee

kk_bAh… The best part of waking up is COFFEE in your cup!
I’m an Eight O’clock French Roast, fresh ground, guy myself. When I smell coffee in the morning it honestly makes me want to roll out of bed for a cup. It’s my one addiction that I have in life. Could I quit? Probably but I haven’t heard it was that bad for me to quit. If the doctor ever says quit, I will. But until then… top me off.
My Mother and Father always drank coffee but I didn’t really start till I was in the military. When it was -20 below zero and we were in the field a HOT cup of coffee would warm you up. Since 85% of the time they had NO sugar or creamer you learned to drink it black. To this day I still drink it black and HOT. I hate warm coffee, it needs to be Hot. I’m not saying boiling in the cup but it does have to be hot.

10 Coffee Facts:
1. Coffee is the second most traded commodity on earth. (Oil is first)
2. Espresso is not a specail coffee, it’s just how it’s prepared.
3. Coffee probably came from Ethipia, when a shepherd noticed the effect of caffeine on his goats, and then they started eating the coffee beans.
4. Islam gave coffee a great boost. Alcohol is prohibited, but coffee is an acceptable drink.
5. In 1675 the King of England banned coffee houses, claiming people were meeting there to conspire against him.
6. 70% of te world drink Arabica coffee, 30% drink Robsta.
7. Coffee grows on trees that grow 30′ tall.
8. Coffee beans is bright red when picked.
9. “Cup of Joe” comes from American servicemen (GI JOES) in WWII being seen as big coffee drinkers.
10. Chocolate covered ‘Coffee Beans’ are AWESOME.

A famous court case about coffee:
The McDonalds vs Liebeck gave a verdict of 2.86 million to plaintiff Stella Liebeck (79 years old)who had suffered third-degree burns in her pelvic region when she accidentally spilled hot coffee in her lap after purchasing it from a McDonald’s restaurant. Liebeck was hospitalized for eight days while she underwent skin grafting, followed by two years of medical treatment. She lost 20lbs of her body mass.
So it was a little more than “I spilled my hot coffee” frivolous lawsuit. Liebeck’s attorneys argued that the coffe was at 180–190 °F, which was a little hotter than normal coffee.
She was with her grandson, the driver, when she put the coffee between her legs to add sugar and cream. Because he drove a Ford Probe, the car didn’t have any cup holders. My question has always been why didn’t they go after Ford?

My Doctor Quit…

Dr_Brian_InglerightI guess because of the new rules and Obama care issues my primary doctor, who just turned 60 years old, decided to quit. I don’t blame him, he’s got enough in savings for him and his wife to comfortable live for the rest of his life so why not. I happy as heck for him… but, he could have told his existing patients.

My wife called the other day and said his line just went to voice mail with no, “if this is an emergency… ” which had always been there. Also, his second line was disconnected. Today she called back and a receptionist picked up and said, oh he retired and a new doctor took over his patients. Oh really? Without consulting me or letting me know? How unprofessional is that? In my opinion that took some nerve… great to retire but let me know and ask if it’s OK to put me with another doctor.

Well I understand Obamacare is going to effect a lot of people. I’ve tried to make head-or-tails out of it and see some good things and some bad. It’s shaking up the entire healthcare system but I’m not sure if that is a bad thing. I think sometimes things need shaken up to see how everything lands. We hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Me losing my doctor of 10 years or so bothers me. I really liked Brian Ingelright. Good doctor and very easy to understand, but I wish him a great retirement. I’m sure he’s worked hard for what he has and deserves a rest. “Good Golfing”  my doctor! You’ll be missed in your profession.

I can upgrade my phone today! NOT

apple-iphone-5sYes, Verizon sent me a nice email saying I’m eligible to upgrade to a new phone. I have the iPhone 4s and don’t see the need to upgrade to the iPhone 5s. I mean what will it do that my 4s won’t do? I’m not the kind of guy that needs to look cool with a new phone, so…what’s the point. I will be out of contract and continue to use my 4s for awhile but I will drop the insurance. For all 4 iPhones I pay $20 per month. If one breaks now I give them mine and upgrade to the 5s.

My buddy a couple years ago bought an iPhone 4. Then I went and got one a few month later and they had just released the 4s, so he had to have one. Then a few month later came out with the 5. So of course his wife and himself had to buy one of those at over $500 each. I was like, why? I think they use it as a status symbol or something, it’s actually funny. “Hey look I have the iPhone 5” So it really was poetic justice when the 5s came out. LOL

I don’t know what is the best, iPhones or Androids, or whatever. I’m about ready to go back to a basic phone with no text or internet. Sometimes I think I’m ignoring people and they’re ignoring me because of phones. Everyone is always talking, looking at, or playing on their phones. Put the phones down and pay attention to each other.

Photo Day…again

IMG_9726frame2I really love going out and spending the day shoot photos. I love photography and actually get a lot of exercise doing it.

I’m setting here at my computer and my back and legs are killing me. I can’t let my sons know because they’d call me a wuss so I just have to suck it up and deal with it.

I did get a lot of good photographs. I don’t know about everyone else but if I shoot all day and only get a few great photos I’m happy. I use a program called ACDSee, mainly because that’s what I’ve used for the last 12 or 13 years and I’m just used to it for photo organization. I think Picasa and a few other would do just as good of a job but I don’t want to learn a new programs.

I’m almost embarrassed of my photos and I’m not sure why. I won’t post a lot of them on Flickr… which I love and highly recommend.

Maybe next weekend I can take a couple day motorcycle ride along with 2 days of photography. My favorite 2 hobbies all at once.

I hate the Changes

downloadWell I really can say I hate these changes I new we host was moving servers and I did expect some bugs. They are working on the problems and I type. I’ve been promised by tomorrow they will have moved everything over to the new and improved servers. So this is Jan. 11, 2014 when I typing but due to technical issues it probably wont go up till tomorrow.

There is always change and I need to start looking at it as a good thing instead of something bad. I mean we’re getting a new high speed server and better up-time and page delivery.  The guy I host it with was with HostGator who is awesome and he’s been moving around to save some money on reseller fees. The downside it you get what you pay for. HostGator is typically about $8.00 per month and I think I’m only paying the host I’m with $10 per year. Big difference….but big difference in the host.

Next year when my Hosting expires I’m going to combine all my websites to one account, HostGator, which I can get at $6.36 a month but then I have to commit to a three year contract. Again, you get what you pay for and even though as far as hosting goes they’re a little expensive but they have great speeds, always up, and little  problems, with great tech support.

Running Late…

IMG_9422I’m just getting to my computer and noticed it was 11:52 pm. I’m doing this daily blog and almost missed another day…argh. But I didn’t! YAY

The adjuster came out today and looked and the truck to see how much it’s going to be to fix it. He didn’t say much except …wow he took out the entire side. DUH… Jeez I never noticed. I wonder if he went to college to learn that. Oh well poor little sensitive guy I’m sure that was his attempt at humor.

We (the entire family) went and had a nice dinner at Sonny’s BBQ. I ate a salad bar and a baked potato, but I did drink a sweet tea, but only half a glass. It was a nice dinner and I realize with the boys getting old there are only so many more times we eat as a family. (the core 6) I used to always say the core 4 but now with the addition of the girls we’re the core 6! I’m pretty sure Faith is here to stay and is never going anywhere. That is OK with me, I love the little girl. At first it was, I’m going to try and keep a little distance so if they remove her from the home it isn’t going to break my heart. We’ll that didn’t work, we fell in love with her. I pray she lives here forever and never go back to her Mom or Dad because if she did I think we’d all be heart broken. She’s now part of our family.

Food and Cooking

tacosMost of us spend a lot of time each day cooking, if you’re not one who eats out every day. I see that we eat the same things over and over, we are creatures of habit that is for sure. Why is it that most of us would be happy to eat out every day. Is the restaurants food better that what we can prepare? If so, something is wrong. We need to take back our kitchens and learn to cook again.

Why is this a must:

1. Cost- How much does it cost to eat out 4 – 7 times per week.
2. Heath – Most of the foods we eat at restaurants isn’t real healthy
3. Love – yes love. Most of us remember our mothers or grandmothers cooking. A lot of time was spent with them cooking. I know they loved to cook us a good meal that we loved, and would spend hours doing so. The kitchen was the number 1 room everyone gathered in.

We need to make a list of what we’re going to have for dinner for the week and Sunday go shopping for all the ingredients. Pre-cook some foods if necessary. Make a cake to last a few days to give you that little sweet fix. I’d like to see people do this for 1 month to see if they feel better, how much money did they save, and do they think they have more family bonding time.

Plus, we’d take some of the money away from the Taco Bells, McDonalds, and other restaurants we eat at, when we know they’re unhealthy but they’re quick foods. As a child I didn’t get McDonalds maybe once a month. I got restaurant pizza once every three months or so, and I was 16 before I ate at “Ponderosa”. (Damn I was the king)

New Things Everyday…

735I was talking to my 80 year old Aunt and she was telling me things that I didn’t know. Then I realized what a treasure chest they are. Our older generation was there during a lot of things and once they’re gone all that information is gone. I guess throughout history that has happened over and over. Some world events and people with first hand knowledge of what really happened.

What’s really amazing when you talking to someone and they start on a topic and you’re just looking at them going …what? I mean it will be about you or your family and it’ll be things that you never knew. I really need to get with her and my mother and start recording some conversation so that there is a record of it out there…

Maybe that should be like Resolution 1, to document all I can this year… hmm… amongst other things.
