Poseidon – 2006 review

poseidon_14For What It’s Worth ~

The movie was made in 2006 and I’ve probably had it since 2007 when it was released to DVD but never got around to watching it. About 1 1/2 years ago I put it in the DVD player and my son told me it wasn’t that great and gave me another movie and said it was better. Well here it is Sept. 8, 2013 and I’m just now getting around to watch it.

Like the first 1972 “The Poseidon Adventure” a lot of the characters died. I knew that having watched that movie what was going to happen but was hoping for a change.  All in all it was a pretty good movie. Josh Lucas and Kirk Russell both played excellent part. I wish now, like many other movies, that I’d watch it years ago. But better late than never!

If you haven’t seen it take a night, make some corn and seat back and enjoy the show!

Our Brass Owl

owlThis little brass owl came from my grandmother who died in 1989. I know she has it at least from 1978, I’m unsure how many years before that she had it. So I can confirm that it’s been in the family at least 35 years, probably more like 45 years. When my son was born in 1998 he carried it around with him for some reason. I told him when I pass away it’s his to pass along to someone in his family. It’s the stupid little things in life that we treasure. This is one of my personal treasures that I have.

Chernobyl Diaries – review

CHERNOBYL DIARIESFor What It’s Worth ~

It’s seems like 1 out of 40 movies or so I just can’t make myself finish the movie, this is the 1 out of 40. I tried to watch the entire thing but I just couldn’t.

People go somewhere they shouldn’t go. Strange things start happening. People start getting killed one-by-one. They find out they’re with a bunch of wacko killers. The main characters almost make it to the end but then die. End of movie. I felt like huh… it that it, are you kidding me? I wasted $1.25 on this? I want my money back it was so bad.

Riddick (2013) – Review

Vin-Diesel-hunts-bounty-hunters-monsters-in-the-dark-in-debut-trailer-for-Riddick-1024x426For What It’s Worth ~

The new Riddick was a movie I actually looked forward to seeing. I saw it on opening night and wasn’t that impressed. Yes it was a classic Riddick movie but it wasn’t that great. I was expecting more space episodes since that is where “The Chronicles of Riddick” left off. That took 2 minutes at the beginning and then he’s on a baron planet fighting for his life. WTF?… I wanted a scifi space fighting movie!

The Chronicles of Riddick was much better, but the new Riddick was OK. Will I buy the DVD when it comes out and watch it again, probably NOT going to happen. I wish I would have simply waited for the $1.25 redbox DVD rental instead of dropping $34 at the movies for my wife and I. But it is a ‘Vin Diesel’ classic movie!

The Butler

the-butler-articleFor What It’s Worth ~

I have to admit my wife sort of pressured me into seeing this movie. Which now I’m thankful to have seen it. The movie takes a black boy from the cotton fields of Georgia to being a butler in the White House. Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey played some excellent parts. It shows how he grew up and everything black Americans were going through.  It took us through the civil rights movements, to black panthers, to the first black president. Which as a child would have bet you would not have happened in my lifetime. We’ve came a long way since then.

Everyone needs to see this movie, both black and white. To see what our parents and grandparents went through. Awesome Movie!!!

A Good Day to Die Hard

A-Good-Day-to-Die-HardJohn McClane goes to Russia to help out his son whom he has learned is in trouble, Jack, only to discover that Jack is a CIA operative working undercover. This causes the father and son to team up against underworld forces. They must KICK ASS and save the country… which they do.

I’ve love most all of the Die Hard series so this one is great as well. Action packed, great one liners, and has Bruce Willis returning to his role. Great back in 1988 and again awesome in 2013.

Some Pet Peeves

1.   Whenever anyone says “Ya, know what I’m sayin”… (I really don’t most of the time)

2.   Using speaker phones in public areas at work. (I really don’t care what you have to say)

3.   Couples that own a dog together and call themselves mommy and daddy. (I’m I the only one who finds this weird)

4.   People who take forever to order food while I’m in line. (WTF… order already!)

5.   When you order a salad at a restaurant and they bring it to you at the same time as your dinner. (tip just went down)

6.   People you play on their phones while in a conversation with me. (That is just rude)

7.   People who throw cigarette butts out their car windows (let me shit in your floorboard)

8.   People who honk in front of a house instead of getting out of the car and ringing the doorbell (is it really that hard to knock)

9.   People who always cry broke but are constantly doing things (I guess there is more than one definition of being broke)

10. People who make out / fondle in public. (I can watch porn in private or make a good movie and send it to me)

Murder on the Orient Express – review

510c87518cf24.imageFor What It’s Worth ~

The murder mystery was made in 1974 but set in the mid-1930’s. Of course like the title implies is on a train. The Orient Express is stopped when it run into a snow bank and is stuck there. A murder aboard the train occurs and they are trying to solve “who done it” mystery. The movie is loaded with Hollywood stars so you won’t be disappointed there.

The “Murder on the Orient Express” just isn’t my kind of movie. To me it seemed as if the director and all the stars were just trying too hard, if that makes sence. I’d say it’s worth a watch even.
