The Great Escape – review

great-escapeFor what it’s worth ~

The Great Escape was released in 1963. Based on a true story, a group of allied escape artist type POW’s are all put in an ‘escape proof’ camp. They come up with a plan to have 250 some odd prisoners escape at the same time. This is an awesome movie and full of stars. This movie is a tribute to all World War II pow’s. The sad fact is the German were better to their Pow’s that their own people.

This has to be on every top 100 list there is. The movie seems to be a few hours long and would make a great weekend movie.

North By NorthWest – review

This is a classic 1959 movie starring Cary Grant. Cary Grant plays an advertising executive who is mistaken for a spy. He is trying to figure out what is going on and who the actual spy is when he runs into Eva Marie Saint. She is a foreign spy and as the movie goes he figures out there is no spy and he’s been set up by a government agency. The movie has some great scene and excellent cinematography.

The movie end with a dramatic rescue and escape at the top of Mt. Rushmore. This movie deserve to be a classic and is understandably on the best movies of all time.

Conan the Barbarian

Fantastic! I really enjoyed this movie. I was exception the old Conan and couldn’t have been more wrong. The story line told how Conan became the warrior barbarian. The movie has more action in 30 than the original movie had in the entire movie.

Conan was born in battle and became a fierce warrior (or barbarian) . Avenging the death of his father he sets out to destroy the entire kingdom who were responsible. Fighting monsters, and impossible odds, and Army’s he finds allies to make the fight even more exciting.

The Cocoanuts – review

This movie was released in 1929 Marx Brothers movie. It does have some great one liners in it but it’s also has alot of musical act in it. I’m not sure if I would ever recommend it as a Saturday evening movie but maybe a Tuesday afternoon movie. I really enjoyed “A Night in Casablanca, Duck Soup, A day at the Races, and many others but this just wasn’t my cup of tea as some say.

I really love the Marx Brother but his is one that I’m not even fond of… sorry Groucho

Battleship – review

Battleship_003For what it’s worth ~

WOW… I actually liked this movie and I feel as if I’m one of the few who did. My entire family watched this on “Family movie night” and we all liked it. It was one of the few movies that we all have agreed was good in a long time. Sadly most of the movie critics disagreed with us and really shredded the movie.

The movie had action, aliens, romance, and some great ship fighting scenes, how can it be bad? Well like I always say it only my opinion and it isn’t worth much.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

1968For what it’s worth ~

Now here is a classic horror film. I watch this film every few years to discover new things that I had originally missed. I really don’t know of anyone who has never seen the Night of the Living Dead.

The new show “The Walking Dead” is a direct takeoff on “Night of the Living Dead” except in The Walking Dead it’s a larger problem. Same type of zombies, slow moving and they eat every living thing they can find. If you haven’t seen the original movie then watch it. You’ll see similarities from every zombie movie that has been made since.

Jack the Giant Slayer

Jack-the-Giant-SlayerFor what it’s worth ~

I watch the movie from beginning to end and still don’t know if I liked it or not. Of course it’s mostly a very unbelievable story. Most of the special effect were OK and every now and then good humor.

As you may know it’s a remake of “Jake and the Beanstalk”.  Maybe I fell asleep during the movie and missed the great parts. But for everything I can remember it I could have a do-over I would NOT put this movie in the blueray player.

If anyone think differently let me know.

Catch 22 – Review

imagesFor what it’s worth ~

This 1970 movie “Catch 22” will fully explain were the phrase Catch 22 came from. You can only see me when I’m out type stuff.

A bombardier in World War tries to understand the insanity of the war. Having served in the US Army for 4 years myself,  I’ve seen the “military mentality” first hand.  Most of the time it makes absolutely NO sense at all.  Why do they do things they do? After a while you learn to NOT even try to make sense of most of what is going on. If you were never there you probably are not going to believe it anyways.  That what this movie is about…

Example: You need experience to be hired to do a job but you can’t get the experience because nobody will hire you before you have any experience.

You really will have to watch this movie to really appreciate and understand it.

Spiderman (2012) – review

For what it’s worth ~

spider-man-movieThis Spiderman I actually liked. I think what it has been my dislike for Spiderman was Toby Mcguire. I never thought he played a good Spiderman / Peter Parker. I think they took his being a nerd and geek to a level of pussy or something. This Spiderman had a little dark side and to me was more realistic than any others before.

I guess to me Spiderman has alway been in the shadows of Superman, Hulk, Thor, and Batman. For a superhero he has always been a wuss of sorts. He does have one heck of a fan club and I have to admit the best theme song! lol

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He’s got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.

The Dark Knight Rises – review

For what it’s worth ~

This Dark Knight Rises was one of the better Batman’s that I’ve seen. I really like the old ones as a kid with Adam West. The when they made the ones in the 1980’2 with Michael Keaton I thought they couldn’t get any better.  I guess I’ll always follow and watch the movies when ever they come out.  They’ve come along way since Adam West put on the mask. I think they’re more realistic and Darker, they way you’d expect Batman to be.

I am sorry that I’ve had the DVD for 10 months and never  watched it. I’ll go to the theater and watch the next one!
